Ballot Petitioning for IL Green Party Presidential and US Senate Candidates

Due to the most unfair voter suppression laws in the country passed jointly by the IL Democratic and Republican controlled IL legislature to suppress the vote of third party and independent voters, the IL Green Party needs 50,000 signatures statewide for our Presidential and US Senate candidates just to get on the November ballot. As a result of this blatant abuse of power by the Two Party Tyranny, the Democratic and Republican Party candidates only need 5,000 signatures. This means the Green Party has to work 4,500 more hours than the corporate party candidates to get on the ballot, in normal times when we are not in the middle of a pandemic.

We only have 3 months (March 24th – June 22nd) to collect 50,000 signatures from registered Illinois voters.

The reason we need 50,000 signatures is because if we only turn in the minimum number of signatures (25,000) the Democratic Party will file an objection to our ballot petition filing and hire lawyers to attempt to throw us off the ballot.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are taking legal action to seek relief from these petitioning requirements. In the meantime we are circulating the petition following social distancing guidelines.
