6-15-20 Special Meeting to Decide 2020 Candidate Endorsements

6-15-2020: Note that we just added two more candidates to the agenda, Christopher Kruger for State Representative (IL-17) and Joseph Kopsick for Congress (IL-10).


6-13-2020: Note that we just added two new candidates to the agenda, Sameera Hussain for State Representative (IL-51) and Thomas Wilda for Congress (IL-5).


We are holding a special meeting to decide whether to endorse candidates for the November 3rd, 2020 General Election. Per Illinois Green Party bylaws, chapters that reside in the district are responsible for deciding whether to endorse candidates in that district.

We are deciding whether to endorse the following candidates (we are allotting about 20 minutes for each candidate):

  • Sameera Hussain for State Representative (IL-51) – Cook, Lake
    • Completed candidate questionnaire for your review
    • IL House District (IL-51) has 109,856 residents. About 99% of the district is in Lake County and about 1% is in Cook County. The district represents all or parts of the city of Waukegan, unincorporated areas (Forest Lake), and villages (Barrington, Barrington Hills, Buffalo Grove, Deer Park, Grayslake, Green Oaks, Gurnee, Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer, Lake Barrington, Lake Zurich, Libertyville, Long Grove, Mettawa, Mundelein, North Barrington, Round Lake Park, Tower Lakes, Vernon Hills, Wauconda).
    • Chapters responsible for endorsement: Lake County Green Party and Cook County Green Party
  • Joseph Kopsick for Congress (IL-10) – Cook, Lake
    • Completed candidate questionnaire for your review
    • US House District (IL-10) has 713,713 residents. About 80% of the district is in Lake County and about 20% is in Cook County. The district represents all or parts of the cities of (Des Plaines, Highland Park, Highwood, Lake Forest, North Chicago, Park City, Park Ridge, Prospect Heights, Waukegan, Zion), unincorporated areas (Fox Lake Hills, Gages Lake, Grandwood Park, Knollwood, Long Lake, Venetian Village), and villages (Bannockburn, Beach Park, Buffalo Grove, Deerfield, Fox Lake, Glencoe, Glenview, Grayslake, Green Oaks, Gurnee, Hainesville, Indian Creek, Lake Bluff, Lake Villa, Lakemoor, Libertyville, Lincolnshire, Lindenhurst, Long Grove, Mettawa, Morton Grove, Mount Prospect, Mundelein, Niles, Northbrook, Riverwoods, Round Lake, Round Lake Beach, Round Lake Heights, Round Lake Park, Third Lake, Vernon Hills, Volo, Wadsworth, Wheeling, Winnetka, Winthrop Harbor).

    • US House District (IL-5) has 732,035 residents. About 90% of the district is in Cook County and about 10% in DuPage County. The district represents all or parts of several cities (Chicago, Des Plaines, Elmhurst, Northlake, Oakbrook Terrace, Wood Dale) and villages (Bensenville, Elmwood Park, Franklin Park, Harwood Heights, Hillside, Hinsdale, La Grange Park, Melrose Park, Niles, Norridge, Oak Brook, River Grove, Rosemont, Schiller Park, Villa Park, Westchester, Western Springs, Westmont).
    • Chapters responsible for endorsement: Cook County Green Party and DuPage County Green Party
  • Christopher Kruger for State Representative (IL-17) – Cook

    • IL House District (IL-17) has 108,867 residents. The district is entirely in Cook County. The district represents all or parts of the city of Evanston and villages (Glenview, Golf, Morton Grove, Northbrook, Skokie, Wilmette).

Sorry about the short notice, but we have just recently been informed that the Judge has changed the Illinois pandemic petitioning court order resulting in the deadline being moved up to July 20th for the last day to file our ballot petitions.
