We are holding a special meeting to decide whether to endorse candidates for the November 3rd, 2020 General Election. Per Illinois Green Party bylaws, chapters that reside in the district are responsible for deciding whether to endorse candidates in that district.

We had scheduled interviews for these two candidates for Congress (IL-5) at our last endorsements meeting held on 6-15-20, but the meeting went long, so we postponed this endorsement until this meeting.

We are deciding whether to endorse one the following candidates:

  • Candidates for Congress (IL-5) – Cook, DuPage
    • Ellen Corley
    • Thomas Wilda
    • US House District (IL-5) has 732,035 residents. About 90% of the district is in Cook County and about 10% in DuPage County. The district represents all or parts of several cities (Chicago, Des Plaines, Elmhurst, Northlake, Oakbrook Terrace, Wood Dale) and villages (Bensenville, Elmwood Park, Franklin Park, Harwood Heights, Hillside, Hinsdale, La Grange Park, Melrose Park, Niles, Norridge, Oak Brook, River Grove, Rosemont, Schiller Park, Villa Park, Westchester, Western Springs, Westmont).
    • Chapters responsible for endorsement: Cook County Green Party and DuPage County Green Party

Sorry about the short notice, but we have just recently been informed that the Judge has changed the Illinois pandemic petitioning court order resulting in the deadline being moved up to July 20th for the last day to file our ballot petitions.

If you are not able to join us via video on your computer or smart device, you can still join us by calling into the meeting on your phone. After you register for the meeting you will receive the link to join the video/audio conference and the phone number.

Sign E-Petition for Anna Schiefelbein to be on Nov. Ballot for State Representative (IL-85)

Anna Schiefelbein for State Representative (IL-85)

Anna Schiefelbein is running for Illinois State Representative (District 85) as a Green! Anna believes in change and works hard to provide more political power to the people.

Join Anna on her journey for political change and power for the people. She needs registered voters in the Illinois 85th State Representative District to sign her electronic petition. Due to a recent court order this e-petition can be used instead of a traditional paper ballot petition, because of the restrictions against in-person petitioning under the Governor’s Covid-19 Executive Order.

To sign Anna’s e-petition, all you have to do are these three easy steps (which should only take a minute or two):

  1. (optional) You can verify that you are registered to vote and/or whether you reside in the district. If you’re a registered voter you will be provided a list of all your voting districts. Make sure your State Representative District is 85. Still not sure if you are a registered voter in Anna’s district? Contact her campaign manager listed below.
  2. (optional) Review the Rules for Signing Ballot Petitions.
  3. Sign Anna’s E-Petition

We can always use help spreading the word or volunteering on the campaign trail! If you’d like to volunteer for or donate to the campaign, please contact Anna’s campaign manager.

Thank you for your continued support!

Team Schiefelbein

Campaign Manager: Jeff Schiefelbein, sunshinebetter@yahoo.com, 630-674-8539

Victory! We are on the Illinois November Ballot!

We are excited to announce a victory and relief from petitioning requirements due to the COVID-19 crisis! The US District Court has ruled that our Presidential and US Senate candidates, as well as other downticket races, will be on the ballot in 2020.

“This is a great legal victory, not only for the Green and Libertarian parties, but for the voters of Illinois, who have a right to cast their ballot for the candidates and parties of their choosing,” said Illinois Green Party co-chair Rich Whitney. “That right is ordinarily suppressed, and frequently denied altogether, by our state’s unfair ballot access laws. Ironically, the extraordinary conditions created by the pandemic both required and permitted the administrators of that unfair system to do the right thing this one time. We were also fortunate enough to have a judge who clearly understood that the Constitution required the granting of this relief.”

As a result, our presidential candidate, who will either be longtime New York Green Howie Hawkins or Ohio Green Dario Hunter, will appear on the November ballot, giving Illinois voters a badly needed alternative to the dismal and nauseating choices presented by the two corporatist/war machine parties, as will our Senate candidate David Black.  It also means that Murphysboro Green Josh Hellmann will be able to return to the ballot, joining Whitney as a candidate for Jackson County Board. This is in addition to our excellent candidates running for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) of Greater Chicago and other candidates already on the ballot in jurisdictions where we are recognized as an established party. The Green Party may be able to field a few additional candidates under the terms of the injunction; watch our newsletters for future announcements.
